ABOUT US

The Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to provide Healthcare, Education and Social Care entirely free of cost to the community whilst also working towards the upliftment of marginalized women through several programs and skills training to provide them with stability, financial independence and ultimately, provide them and their families with a better standard of living.

Batticaloa was chosen by Bhagawan because it had suffered tremendously through a 30-year civil war and has had more than its fair share of natural disasters. The war left behind over 30,000 war widows and families who had lost their houses, land, and livelihood. This community faced another devastating loss when the 2004 tsunami decimated its shores and coastal villages, affecting the area and its residents gravely. The loss of lives and destruction has been well documented. The entire district of Batticaloa is continuously exposed and affected by monsoon floods and tropical cyclones and remains vulnerable and in continuous need of humanitarian support.

Perhaps it was all this tragic history that brought about the blessing of a facility that not only caters to the direct community, but to the people of the entire island that need free health care and alleviation from what has been the hardest circumstance in our island’s history.

WHAT WE DO

The Clinic in Action The care that is taken involves deep connections. The community is made up of everyone- the old as well as the young come together to make sure that the Foundation is seen as a pillar of support for generations to come. Medicine Distribution Most patients cannot afford the increasing cost of medication needed for treatment, especially the elderly who are dependent and have no income of their own. The Foundation is built on the philosophy of free health care, thus all medicines are provided free of charge. Registration and Record The process of registration of each patient helps keep track of patients health records and safety procedures as their wellbeing is at the forefront of what we do.
The Finest Medical Attention Consultant Physicians are on hand to deliver the absolute best care and advice, giving their time and working for free to provide their community with the help they need. Feeding the Needy The Medical Centre canteen prepares food that is then distributed to the community 3 times per week. Many live in makeshift housing and impoverished surroundings- the disabled in particular are the focus, as nourishment is provided to their doorstep. Nutrition for Students A daily distribution of bananas and milk to provide the children with the basic nutrition they need for growth and well-being. A Playground for All Building a brand new playground was as important for the children as providing them an education. A place where they could be free to run around and enjoy themselves.
Community Care In addition to the main duties in the Medical Centre, our staff very happily contribute their services whenever programs to uplift the community are initiated.
