ABOUT US
The Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to provide Healthcare, Education and Social Care entirely free of cost to the community whilst also working towards the upliftment of marginalized women through several programs and skills training to provide them with stability, financial independence and ultimately, provide them and their families with a better standard of living.
Batticaloa was chosen by Bhagawan because it had suffered tremendously through a 30-year civil war and has had more than its fair share of natural disasters. The war left behind over 30,000 war widows and families who had lost their houses, land, and livelihood. This community faced another devastating loss when the 2004 tsunami decimated its shores and coastal villages, affecting the area and its residents gravely. The loss of lives and destruction has been well documented. The entire district of Batticaloa is continuously exposed and affected by monsoon floods and tropical cyclones and remains vulnerable and in continuous need of humanitarian support.
Perhaps it was all this tragic history that brought about the blessing of a facility that not only caters to the direct community, but to the people of the entire island that need free health care and alleviation from what has been the hardest circumstance in our island’s history.
